  MEET THE AIR STAFF

 GUY PATRICK GARRAGHAN
Mornings 6-9AM

A lifelong resident of the area, Guy has been a morning radio fixture in the Northern Catskills
for more than 25 years, 17 of them as the wake up voice on WCKL in Catskill, NY.
Now going into his 9th year on WRIP, Guy’s family-friendly morning show features frequent weather and time checks, news  from the Associated Press, local happenings, and frequent in-studio guests. When people need to know what’s happening in the Northern Catskills, they listen to Guy - one of the best known personalities in the region!

Guy's Q & A

Where were you born?  In a hospital.  Catskill Memorial Hospital, I’m told.  I don’t remember the occasion.

What's the coolest thing about the Great Northern Catskills?  A few things.  It’s so darn pretty and peaceful, and let’s not forget about all those tick infested deer.

When you have friends visit the Great Northern Catskills for the first time, what's the one thing you insist they see/do?
Have a cup of Irish tea with me [muy treat], then have dinner [their treat].  Other than that I would want them look beyond all the stupid condos and see the real beauty of the region.

Favorite Hobby/Pastime?
Reading, and that really stupid game [golf].

If you could have one superpower, what would it be, and why?

To turn nasty people that hurt other people, and don’t play the game [of life] fair into frogs with really bad breath for the rest of their natural lives.

One song that's the anthem to your life?
This could get me fired, but I don’t have an anthem.  I’m really not into music.  Makes no sense to me – just like dancing and the National Basketball Association.

Favorite band and/or songs growing up?
Maybe you didn’t hear me!!!  See above.

What are some of the stations/cities where you've worked before coming to Rip 97.9?  WCKL in Catskill.  Morning Man for, what – 16 years I think.

Coolest / funniest / weirdest moment of your radio career so far?
My career has had no cool, funny or weird moments as of this writing.  Think about it, 26 years in radio and I’m as boring now as I was when I first cracked the microphone.

If they made a movie about you, what actor would you like to play you?
Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff, or maybe Bela Lugosi.  Hey, does anybody remember them??

Famous person (living or dead) you'd most like to have dinner with?
Jesus Christ.  The guy had to be a real hoot. Incredible.  I have a few questions for him and I don’t really want to wait for a one-on-one with him when my life here on earth ends to ask them.

What's your #1 pet peeve?
People who can’t seem to chill-out and laugh.  Hell, life is a real kick, but some people “just don’t get it.”

Whom do you admire the most?
My children – Jim, Shannon and Kristen.

Dog or Cat? Other Critters?
Cat.  Dog died.  Critters?  Well, had a couple of Red Squirrels running around the house the other day, but they were not there by invitation – came down through the chimney.  Nope.  No other critters.

Do you have a blog/website/MySpace? Naw, I don’t have time for that stuff in my life.

Guy at WCKL Catskill, circa 1971.
